JACK D. ORTEGO

President

Jack D.  Ortego has a PhD in Dairy Foods and minor in Microbiology.   Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Ortego is a former member of St. Landry Economic Development Boar has expertise in developing and maintaining community relationships to increase quality & quantity of jobs and improve quality of life in St. Landry Parish. He is a former member of the St. Landry Parish School Board and has experience in school governance, finance, curriculum, and operations. Dr. Ortego is the owner of Ortego Consultants, a management development program that provided professional development for superintendents and principals in the areas of confidence building, communications, and goal-setting.  Dr. Ortego’s vast expertise and experience will bring leadership, guidance and cohesiveness to SLCS.

NORMA R. JOHNSON

Vice President

Norma Johnson is a former educator, has 30 years serving the St. Landry Parish School District as secretary to the superintendent and board. Mrs. Johnson has vast experience in school governance, policies, finance, and operations.  She has served 7 superintendents and attended over 360 school board meetings that brings experience, guidance, and leadership to SLCS governance board.

SHELBY SANTIAGO

Secretary

Shelby Santiago holds a Bachelor’s Degree of Arts in History from Xavier University of Louisiana. She is a young, enthusiastic professional who is a confident, skilled communicator, and forward thinker who can relate to people and work as a team. Ms. Santiago is an advocate for children. She participated in the National CASA Association Child Policy and Law Professional Development, has experience in training potential CASA child advocates, communications and marketing planning, staff supervision, and maintaining relationships with businesses, non-profits, city and parish officials, and law enforcement to continue expansion of local programs.

STEPHEN M. MORROW

Teasurer

Mr. Morrow has practiced law in Opelousas for the past 35 years.  As a businessman, he understands the seriousness of the conditions of the schools in Opelousas.  Mr. Morrow has a vested interest in providing an education system that will benefit the children, the community, and produce a viable workforce.  His expertise in best business practices, legal issues, human resources, and community service brings guidance and strong leadership to the Board.

ALBERT SIMIEN, SR.

Members

Albert Simien, Sr. has served on several boards.  Mr. Simien in currently the Vice Chairman of the Opelousas General Health Care System Board of Directors. He also serves as the Chairman of the Personnel Committee and is a member of the Executive Committee and Facilities Planning Committee. Mr. Simien has vast experience in making strategic decisions to ensure the hospital is providing quality care.  Mr. Simien is a well-known member of the community and brings a wealth of leadership experience to the Board.

DWIGHT L. BROWN

MembersDwight Brown is a Lieutenant on patrol, DARE Officer, Resource Officer with the Opelousas Police Department, and is an ordained minister. As a DARE and Resource Officer, Lt. Brown works in conjunction with government leaders, teachers, and parents to provide a safe school environment. He also works with students to develop life-long skills to avoid drugs, cope with bullying, and build self-esteem. Lt. Brown’s work and understanding of the challenges faced by our children brings insight, compassion, and experience to our Board.

KATHERINE G. SOILEAU

Members

Katherine Soileau is a seasoned educator with a vast educational skillset. Among her many accomplishments, Mrs. Soileau served as Personnel Director for the St. Landry Parish School Board, was a member of the Superintendent of Education’s Cabinet, was also a member of the St. Landry Parish School Board team that planned, wrote, and implemented the Federal Desegregation Unity Status Plan, wrote and implemented a Substitute Teacher Training Plan, revised Personnel Evaluation Plan, and published a Leave Policy Manual.
